Oak & Apple

J. Dickey This lo-fi hymnal has been such a breath of fresh air. I don't care for the over-produced, arena pop-rock sound of much modern worship music. This album is such a juxtaposition--front-porch aesthetics, authentic and vulnerable acoustic instruments, room-sized vocals, and a complete lack of pretentiousness. I will be listening to this for years to come. Favorite track: I Have Decided.

Wintertime, I’ve waited so long All the earth’s beginning to thaw The water is turning to wine He’s coming again for his bride Mountain stream has started to flow Oak and apple shed off their snow and all of the creatures arise the sun is beginning to shine In the grass the lilies have grown Just to see him when he comes home When all of his children will sing praises for the glorious King Wintertime I’ve waited so long All the earth’s beginning to thaw The water is turning to wine He’s coming again for his bride

This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres. This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; His hand the wonders wrought. This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise, The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker’s praise. This is my Father’s world: He shines in all that’s fair; In the rustling grass I hear Him pass; He speaks to me everywhere. This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet. This is my Father’s world, why should my heart be sad? The lord is King—let the heavens ring. God reigns—let the earth be glad. This is my Father’s world. I walk a desert lone. In a bush ablaze to my wondering gaze God makes His glory known. This is my Father’s world, a wanderer I may roam Whate’er my lot, it matters not, My heart is still at home. This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done: Jesus who died shall be satisfied, And earth and Heav’n be one.

Abbeville 02:57
Come, Holy Spirit, come, With energy divine, And on this poor, benighted soul With beams of mercy shine. Melt, melt this frozen heart; This stubborn will subdue; Each evil passion overcome, And form me all anew Mine will the profit be, But Thine shall be the praise; And unto Thee will I devote The remnant of my days.

He is Risen 02:56
There by the tomb, dug in the ground Mary and the others had gathered round but on that day, He could not be found He is risen, Hallelujah Hallelu Oh my sweet love, my faithful bride - she spoke in hushed whispers on the day that she died she said “soon my dear, I’ll be by his side” now she is with Him, Hallelujah Hallelu Oh heart sink not into that mire cast off the empty praise for which we men aspire incline your ear to hear that heavenly choir sing He is risen, Hallelujah Hallelu

Doxology 01:54
Praise God from whom all blessing flow Praise Him all creatures here below Praise Him above ye heavenly host Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
6.
How deep the Father's love for us, How vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son To make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss, The Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the chosen One, Bring many sons to glory Behold the Man upon a cross, My sin upon His shoulders Ashamed I hear my mocking voice, Call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there Until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished I will not boast in anything No gifts, no power, no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart His wounds have paid my ransom

We Are One 03:17
We are two, we are one, we are We are two, we are one, we are Oh the Lord is good and true he brought me to you We are two, we are one, we are We are two, we are one, we are We are two, we are one, we are The Lord, from Adam's side, took a rib to make a bride We are two, we are one, we are O, Let us sing his praise my Love, always and magnify his name for all of our days We are two, we are one, we are We are two, we are one, we are Oh sweet Love of mine eat the bread and take the wine Amen we are one, we are we are

I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, No turning back, no turning back. Though none go with me, still I will follow, Though none go with me, still I will follow, Though none go with me, still I will follow, No turning back, no turning back. The world behind me, the cross before me, The world behind me, the cross before me, The world behind me, the cross before me, No turning back, no turning back.

When I was 23, boozing-oh, boozing-oh When I was 23, left my home When I was 23, said ‘Father give to me My share of what you’re worth, I will roam, I will roam I kissed my mother’s face and I left home I wandered far from there, gave my love, gave my love I wandered far from there, gave my love She wore a pretty gown, and she let her tresses down and the boys would gather round, O my love, O my love the boys would gather round her, my love But she cared not for me, O my soul, O my soul No, she cared not for me, O my soul As I lay fast asleep, she took her leave of me and left me not a thing, O my soul, O my soul and left me not a thing, O my soul As I was sinking down, weary boned, O my soul As I was sinking down, I missed my home I set off down the road, for to take a servant’s load back to my father’s home I would go, I would go O never more to roam, O my soul What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul What wondrous love is this, O my soul What wondrous love is this, met with a father’s kiss while I was far from home, O my soul, O my soul He met me far from home, O my soul

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus; What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Refrain: Oh! precious is the flow That makes me white as snow; No other fount I know, Nothing but the blood of Jesus. For my pardon, this I see, Nothing but the blood of Jesus; For my cleansing this my plea, Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Refrain Nothing can for sin atone, Nothing but the blood of Jesus; Naught of good that I have done, Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Refrain This is all my hope and peace, Nothing but the blood of Jesus; This is all my righteousness, Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

about

Recorded from January to July, 2011. Originally I had in mind to just record 5 or 6 hymns, finger-style on a nylon string guitar, for a very minimalist production. Somehow it expanded beyond that and I included not just traditional hymns, but some which I wrote, as well. Production quality has improved somewhat, thanks to the condenser mics I got for Christmas, but I believe we managed to maintain the intimacy of the previous releases. We hope you enjoy it.
