Crown Him with many crowns, The Lamb upon His throne; Hark! how the heavenly anthems drowns All music but its own: Awake, my soul, and sing Of Him who died for thee, And hail Him as thy matchless King Through all eternity. Through all eternity Crown Him the Son of God Before the worlds began, And ye, who tread where He hath trod, Crown Him the Son of man; Who every grief hath known That wrings the human breast, And takes and bears them for His own, That all in Him may rest. Crown Him the Lord of life Who triumphed o’er the grave, And rose victorious in the strife For those He came to save; His glories now we sing Who died, and rose on high. Who died, eternal life to bring And lives that death may die. Crown Him the Lord of heaven, Enthroned in worlds above; Crown Him the King, to whom is given The wondrous name of Love, Crown Him with many crowns, As thrones before Him fall. Crown Him, ye kings, with many crowns, For He is King of all.

about

This collaboration was born out of feeling of mutual admiration. Zambroa and I had been talking about collaborating on a project for a while. One day he posted a video of a choir singing this hymn in a grand cathedral and I told him that I, too, loved this hymn. So we decided to try and put together a rendition of it. I tried my usual way of taking an existing hymn melody and making it fit with my style of acoustic finger-picking, but I felt like this hymn is a bit grandiose. It really sounds best sung with a choir in a large church with an organ in the background. So I wrote a new accompaniment and melody for the song. I recorded my guitar part and vocals and sent it off to Zambroa who added some production flourishes and mixed the song. We felt like it sounded good but could benefit by bringing in a female voice, almost singing a sort of descant part, floating above the rest of the song. Tenielle has a beautiful tone in her higher register and so I reached out to see if she would be willing to add some harmonies. Luckily she agreed and I'm really pleased with how the song came together! -Wilder
